The third year brief was to use concrete as the main architectural material while incorporating strong structural elements. The programme was to be an earthquake museum with a memorial area.

The concept of the design is based around the strength of a humans rib bones. Therefore the structure of the museum is focused on reflecting this. The exterior material is a new product called transparent concrete. This allows for strength within the facade as well as transparency. The structure can be seen from the exterior of the building - through the facade.

The building creates a light box affect at night. This enforces the concept of the earthquake museum being a pillar of hope and rememberance.
